ACCOMMODATIONS

There’s not much in the way of lodging in this part of Wine Country. Carneros thinks of Sonoma as its main town, and that’s where most of the “local” hotels can be found. There are, however, a couple of options for those looking for either an out-of-the-way bargain or some out-of-this-world luxury.

$100-200

The Spanish-style Vineyard Inn (23000 Arnold Dr., Sonoma, 707/938-2350 or 800/359-4667, www.vineyardinnsonoma.com , $179-315) offers 22 modern and comfortable rooms just minutes from some of the biggest wineries in Carneros. The standard queen rooms are the cheapest and include the usual motel amenities, including a continental breakfast and use of the very small outdoor pool. One drawback is the inn’s location at one of the busiest intersections in Carneros, which makes some of the cheaper rooms at the front of the building a bit noisy. Other than the constant traffic and a gas station opposite, there’s not much else around, so you’ll have to drive to dinner; Sonoma Plaza is only about 10 minutes away.
